Public Inquiry: Boxted Cross, Colchester
18 December 2014 | Posted by Joanna Burton
Beacon Planning provides expert heritage advice at a public inquiry.

Beacon Planning recently provided expert heritage advice at a public inquiry on behalf of the appellants seeking outline consent for up to 43 houses on a former industrial site at Boxted Cross, Colchester.

The application site was historically the farmyard to the adjacent farmhouse which is Grade II listed. Beacon Planning provided an assessment of the setting of the listed farmhouse as part of a Heritage Statement prepared to support the outline application which was refused. Although heritage did not form part of the reason for refusal, we prepared a proof of evidence and appeared at the inquiry in the light of recent case law reinforcing the requirement to pay special regard to preserving the heritage significance of listed buildings as per section 66 of the Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) Act 1990.

The Inspector's decision is expected in the New Year.
