Bedgebury School

Provision of planning and heritage advice to assist in sale of site.

Description

The site at Bedgebury in Kent was occupied by the Bell School but was no longer part of its long term business plan. The main school buildings are Grade II* listed and the site is in a remote location.

Beacon were appointed to produce two reports that would form part of the ‘sales pack’ for the site. The first considered potential alternative uses and assessed their acceptability in planning terms. The second was an assessment of the heritage significance of the buildings within the site and their potential for alterations, adaptations or demolition. We also considered where any new buildings may be appropriate.

We arranged a meeting with senior council officers to show them around the site and to discuss the main findings of our analysis.

The reports were subsequently endorsed by the council and formed part of the sales packs.
