Nuffield Hospital

Go-ahead for £15m state-of-the-art hospital.

The main requirement was to secure permission for a new hospital that could be built alongside the existing one which would remain in operation and then be demolished once all new facilities had been re-provided.

The new hospital has 47 bed spaces and will contain an In and Out-Patients Department, Oncology, Endoscopy, Physiotherapy and 3 operating theatres with associated preparation and recovery areas.

The site is adjacent to designated heritage assets (3 conservation areas and a listed building) and Beacon prepared a Statement of Significance and agreed this with the council's Conservation Officers.

The other key challenge was presented by the extensive tree cover, which played a large part in defining the unusual building footprint. The retention of trees was a high priority expressed in extensive consultations with residents.

Beacon led the pre-application discussions with the City Council, prepared the Planning Statement and coordinated the submission of the planning application.

We were subsequently appointed to secure the discharge of the conditions attached to the planning permission.

Planning permission was granted in February 2013. The project was completed in July 2015.
