Fire Station, cambridge
A mixed use scheme comprising a replacement Fire Station, 134 apartments and a retail unit on a sensitive site in Cambridge’s Central Conservation Area.
Initially commissioned by the developer to prepare a detailed context appraisal of the site we were subsequently appointed to work alongside Glenn Howells Architects to develop the scheme and submit planning and conservation area consent applications.
We were responsible for:
- Organising the public consultation publicity and exhibition
- Liaison with the City Council
- Preparation of the Planning Statement and contributing to the Design Statement
- Coordinating the Environmental Statement
- Preparing the justification for the demolition of the existing Fire Station
- Collating the application documentation
- Advising on the heads of terms for the S106 agreement
Although recommended for approval by officers the scheme was refused by the Council’s Planning Committee. We prepared and gave evidence at the public inquiry in May 2007 and approval was granted by the Secretary of State in June 2007.
(NB This project was undertaken while Andy and Jon were Directors of QuBE).
