City College Norwich
Jon and Andy began their association with the College whilst still at QuBE and secured Outline Consent for the site masterplan, devised by Aukett Fitzroy Robinson, in September 2008.
The outline planning consent allows for the redevelopment of the College Campus for educational use with associated administrative and ancillary facilities (D1) to a maximum floorspace of 66,555m2 with additional atria space together with new vehicular and pedestrian accesses, car parking and landscaping.
Beacon was subsequently appointed to submit Reserved Matters Applications for the redevelopment of the College Campus. The first phase of the redevelopment, designed by BDP, comprises a new building at the north of the city centre end of the campus to provide space for the College’s creative arts, catering and hospitality and hair, beauty and leisure industries courses, as well as a range of services open to the public to enable students to gain first-hand experience in real working environments. Facilities include a restaurant, hair and beauty salon and spa, all within a hotel-style setting as well as a theatre, gym and other sporting facilities.
The new building at the southern end of the campus will house the College’s technology courses and will also offer services to the public.
Work on the Reserved Matters applications was put on hold in December 2008 due to the finding difficulties of the Learning and Skills Council.
