Harvey Court Gonville & Caius College Cambridge
Harvey Court was designed by Sir Leslie Martin and Colin St John Wilson and erected in 1961-62 for Gonville and Caius College. Many elements of the building have now reached the end of their useful life and the accommodation requires updating and refurbishment. The principal works are essential repairs to a large rooflight, the podium and parapets, including the reinstatement of the original brick pavior surfaces; the refurbishment of student rooms including the provision of en-suite facilities to student rooms; and the modification of communal gyp rooms, storage rooms and gym.
Beacon were originally appointed to prepare a Historic Building Assessment and to advise on the preparation of detailed proposals for the refurbishment and alteration of this Grade II* Listed student accommodation building in the west of Cambridge. Subsequently the appointment was widened to include:
- Leading the discussions with the City Council, English Heritage and the Twentieth Century Society;
- Coordination and submission of the Planning and Listed Building applications;
- Preparation of the Planning and Heritage and Design and Access Statements; and
- Preparation and submission of associated applications
Planning and Listed Building Consent for the main refurbishment works was granted in January 2010.
