Marconi Site, chelmsford

The creation of a new mixed use development in the heart of Chelmsford on the site of the Marconi works, the world's first purpose built radio factory.

Jon and Andy were originally commissioned to prepare a detailed assessment of the historic significance of the buildings on the site and to prepare a detailed report to provide the basis for discussion and agreement with the Borough Council about the buildings to be retained.

Subsequently the scope of the works was widened to include:

Providing advice on the refurbishment of the listed buildings.
Preparing the justification for the demolition of buildings.
Leading a small team preparing a Design Code.
Preparing the technical chapters of the Environmental Statement dealing with heritage and visual impact.

The planning application was lodged in March 2008.
